4 Notice how my left knee touches Allen’s right side of the head and how my left elbow pins the left side. He can’t move his head so he can’t move! I slide the right hand along the mat and under his left arm until I can reach and grab my left wrist with it. I now have a figure-4 around Allen’s left arm.

5 I bring my right leg forward and drive the knee over Allen’s stomach pressing down on it. I shoot the left leg back pressing the toes on the mat and push off them. I lean to my left, my right arm forces Allen’s elbow up while my left hand pushes Allen’s wrist down; his hand slides down as if it was a paint brush painting the mat (this lock is also known as paint-brush because of that) torqueing the shoulder for the key-lock. It is very important for me to keep Allen’s arm bent and the wrist close to his head. I do this by keeping my elbow tight against the left side of his head. If I allow my elbow to move away from the side of Allen’s head it not only gives more range to his shoulder before he feel the pain but he can more easily extend the arm and foil the attack.
